Water: The Best Beauty Essential
With the release of our new Acqua Glass Drink Bottles, we thought it was time we dived deep into the world of water, and why it’s the easiest way to keep our bodies looking and feeling beautiful.
I’ve often heard health experts say if there’s one easy thing you can do for your health today, it’s to drink water and lots of it! (number 2, 3, 4 & 5 would be to lower those stress levels, eat your greens, move your body and cut the sugar, but who’s counting)
So we know we need to drink water, but when we get down to the nitty gritty of it, we want to know:
- Why is water so important to our health and beauty
- How much should we be drinking
- How do we up our daily water levels
Let’s start with the why:
Our bodies are made up of huge amounts of water; roughly 60-70%, and each day we lose about 5-10% of water through breathing, sweating and going to the toilet, so it makes sense we have to keep replenishing our bodies to keep them feeling and looking beautiful.
We all want to look and feel beautiful, and not spend a fortune doing so. So does beauty really begin on the inside? Yep, with water! Our skin is our largest organ, and made up of lots and lots of cells. Keeping those cells hydrated increases the skins elasticity and keeps our skin radiating, plump and helps to produce that natural glow.
Drinking lots of water also helps our bodies with digestion, circulation, detoxification and can even help with cravings.
How much should we drink?
Some people say 8 glasses, others say until you can’t drink anymore. We say do what feels right for your body, but start off with 2 liters a day and work up from there.
It’s always best to drink water throughout the whole day to give your body the best chance of absorbing it. If you’re a midnight bathroom dweller, we’d advise to drink the bulk of your water towards the earlier side of the day, and not all before bed. Start to slow up on your liquids around dinnertime and say hello to more solid sleep.
A good way of telling whether you’re drinking enough water is to check your wee. The goal is more clear than yellow (sorry TMI).
How do I drink 2 liters a day?
Especially during the colder days, keeping your water intake high can be really tricky. The surest way to ensure you’re drinking enough is to carry a water bottle with you. Keep it on your desk, in your handbag, take it to pilates, on the train, in the car…you get the gist.
Another trick is to drink a big glass of warm water with a bit of lemon first thing in the morning when you wake up. This is a fantastic way to alkalise your body, flush out any toxins and get your digestive system all fired up for the day ahead
